When Sakshi Vaidya learnt that the action spy thriller Agent (2023) tanked miserably at the box office, she felt terrible for the team.

“I saw how much hard work went into it from the side of every person, be it Akhil Akkineni or director Surender Reddy. There was so much heart and soul invested in it. So, I felt bad for the team,” she quipped.

Interestingly, Agent marked her debut film.

She further added, “Flop or hit, I knew that it was going to place me in the film industry. It did work out well for me, but I felt bad for the team. We didn’t expect it to be a flop. However, everyone moved on.”

Sakshi Vaidya is now pinning big hopes on her upcoming movie Gandeevadhari Arjuna where she plays the role of an IAS officer. The film is produced by BVSN Prasad and Bapineedu under the SVCC banner.

“I play the role of an IAS officer named Ira in Gandeevadhari Arjuna. She is a young bureaucrat who frames policies for the environmental ministry. Senior actor Nassar plays the union minister for the environment. I guide him through his tasks,” Sakshi told the media in Hyderabad on Monday, 21 August.

Tough and challenging times

Sakshi Vaidya also revealed how tough it was to shoot in the cold weather of England.

“It was a 30-day schedule in London. We did not have the time to go to the vanity, relax and chill. Our director Praveen Sattaru was so quick that he made it happen within no time. That was challenging and also helpful for me as an actor. Since you don’t get out of the zone and body language, it is not difficult to start over again,” she recollected.

“Another challenge was shooting in cold weather. October in London was very chill. I had those scenes where I was wearing normal costumes and was shivering. I had to drive a vehicle when in reality, I am not a good driver,” the actor recalled.

Director Praveen Sattaru wanted a new face for the project. “He saw the clips from my previous film Agent and called me. He said I can pull off the character (Ira). After attending a few workshops, I slid into the role so comfortably. Praveen Sattaru is a creative person,” she added.

About Varun Tej

About her co-star Varun Tej, Sakshi said, “When I met Varun, I was a bit scared. I am usually hesitant to strike up a conversation with people from such a big background and hence, I kept a safe distance from him.”

She hastened to add, “However, he is humble and cordial. He used to explain to me whatever the film unit would discuss in Telugu. Well, I feel it is pointless to sit with people when you don’t understand the language. He cares a lot and helped me throughout the journey.”

Sakshi Vaidya says she managed to learn a one-liner in Telugu — “Naku Ardham Avvatledu” (I am not able to get it) just to reiterate if she doesn’t get the subject right when people speak to her in Telugu.

The Agent actress happened to be in a good space with back-to-back action flicks. She calls it “luck by chance”.

“Maybe producers didn’t want to experiment with my face yet. That’s the reason I got another action flick Gandeevadhari Arjuna after Agent. Hopefully, I get to exhibit my creative side in future ventures. As long as I like the story, I am okay with action flicks too,” she quipped.

Fond of love stories

Sakshi Vaidya has another big flick Ustaad in the pipeline. She hasn’t started shooting yet.

She was supposed to shoot for Sai Dharam Tej’s next in July, but the film got postponed indefinitely.

“So, I had to sit idle at home. That was when I happened to shoot a music video with Badshah Gone Girl (2023).”

With Dulquer Salman’s Lucky Baskhar and Ravi Teja’s untitled flick in her kitty, the actor says love stories give her more scope to perform as an actor.

“I want to do more love stories. If I get good action-oriented scripts, I would like to latch up on them. For instance, something similar to Samantha’s Yashoda (2022),” she signed off.
