Rishab Shetty to give tough competition to Chiranjeevi, Balakrishna for Sankranthi_

It is needless to mention how big was Kantara‘s success in Telugu as much as it did in its native language Kannada.

The astounding success of Kantara — made on a budget of less than ₹20 crore but grossed over ₹300 crore, has surpassed all expectations.

Despite its delayed release in Telugu by two weeks, the unprecedented success it garnered was massive. Some producers, initially sceptical about acquiring the dubbing rights, had to regret their hesitation.

After the monumental success of KGF, Kantara is the only Kannada film which made a huge success in Tollywood.

And now, a prequel to Kantara is currently underway. There is no doubt that the film’s popularity is luring buyers from Tollywood and elsewhere in the country.

Actor-director Rishab Shetty is set to unveil the prequel, titled Kantara-A Legend Chapter 1, to the original story.

Backed by Hombale Films, the project is witnessing lavish spending. It is learnt that the makers are spending seemingly with no budgetary constraints.

Reports from the Bengaluru media suggest that the investment exceeds a staggering ₹100 crore.

Simultaneously, rumours are circulating that the makers are planning to launch this pan-India movie for Sankranthi 2025. This move is particularly noteworthy as Sandalwood traditionally wouldn’t prioritise this festival.

Usually, due to the intense competition between star heroes in Telugu and films from the Tamil industry, no Kannada film dared to compete during Sankranthi in the past.

However, this time, breaking from the usual trend, there are numerous indications that Kantara-A Legend Chapter 1 will be released in January.

So far, only Chiranjeevi’s Vishwambhara has officially confirmed its slot for that season. There’s a strong possibility of Venkatesh and Nagarjuna joining the lineup.

Additionally, if Balakrishna-Bobby’s project, tentatively titled NBK109, misses the mark in 2024, it might also enter the race.

Navigating through such stiff competition poses a challenge for Kantara-A Legend Chapter 1. However, Rishab Shetty seems to be optimistic, believing that the film’s dedicated fanbase will welcome it.

The question is can this actor-director truly deliver what audiences have been expecting?
