Billed as a wholesome family entertainer, Naa Saami Ranga is a period-action drama directed by Vijay Binni. It is headlines by Akkineni Nagarjuna.
Choreographer Vijay Binni is debuting as a director with the flick.
The Nagarjuna-starrer also casts Allari Naresh, Raj Tarun, Ashika Ranganath, and Jisshu Sengupta in crucial roles. Oscar Award winner MM Keeravani composed its music.
Produced by Srinivasa Chitturi under the banner of Srinivasa Silver Screen, the big-budget Telugu film is all set for a grand release on 14 January worldwide.
During a media interaction in Hyderabad recently, Nagarjuna shared his experience working on the film, which turned out to be one of the fastest projects in his career.
Excerpts from the interview:
Q. Naa Saami Ranga seems to be the fastest project you’ve undertaken in your career?
A. From the commencement of shooting to the release date, I can say that Naa Saami Ranga was swiftly filmed — not in terms of working days, though.
We have completed several films in 35 days. For Naa Saami Ranga, the shooting spanned 72 days, of which I dedicated 60 days.
Proper pre-production and groundwork facilitated to meet the deadline.
We are fortunate that we had a music maestro like MM Keeravani on board. He delivered three songs before shooting commenced, and even the background music for the fight sequence was ready.
We shot the fight scenes with the backdrop of his music. I should say Keeravani stands out as the star of our movie.
Q. What aspects of the Naa Saami Ranga storyline piqued your interest?
A. As a viewer, all elements appealed to me. It has endearing friendship, love, sacrifice, and faith.
It is a profoundly moving story with human emotions.
Q. Is it accurate to say that Naa Saami Ranga is the first Telugu film set against the backdrop of Sankranthi Prabhala Teertham?
A. Indeed, the narrative unfolds during the three days of Bhogi, Sankranthi, and Kanuma. Sankranthi holds significance because of its cultural importance.
The story transpires to the 80s. It is a must-watch flick for those who love family bonding during the festival.

Q. Considering the Malayalam origin of the story, what precautions did you take for adapting it to Telugu?
We ensured that the essence of the story remained intact. Credit goes to director Vijay Binni for meticulously designing it and Prasanna for adeptly infusing Telugu nativity into the story.
Q. What role does Aashika Ranganath play in Naa Saami Ranga?
A. We both have a typical love story. I play the role of Kishtaiah in the film.
Our love story begins at the age of 12, and we fall in love again after 30 years — without any one-on-one interaction.
It is an extraordinary yet unique story, and Aashika delivered a commendable performance.
Q. What’s the reason behind investing in choreographer-turned-director Vijay Binni?
A. Vijay Binni possesses an exceptional visual sense, particularly while choreographing a song.
His storytelling through songs is a standout feature.
When he narrated the story and outlined his vision, it resonated well with all of us. Binni has clarity in what he does.
Q. How do Allari Naresh and Raj Tarun contribute to the film?
A. Naresh’s role was conceived before Vijay Binni joined the project. We felt Allari Naresh is someone who can pull off such character of brotherhood very well.
Raj Tarun also plays a pivotal role in the story.
Q. What significance does the title Naa Saami Ranga hold?
A. We took the title Naa Saami Ranga from one of my father’s (the late Nageswara Rao) old songs. We believe the title perfectly sits to tell a compelling story on the screen.
Moreover, “Naa Saami Ranga” will keep recurring throughout the film.
