Last year, Telugu audiences witnessed an intense box-office showdown between Megastar Chiranjeevi and Nandamuri Balakrishna during the Sankranthi festival.

Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya (2023) emerged victorious over Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy (2023).

This year, a similar contest is in the offing. The Sankranthi festive season will see two senior stars battling it out once again.

Daggubati Venkatesh is set to greet audiences with the emotional action thriller Saindhav, while Nagarjuna Akkineni will try his luck with the rural mass entertainer Naa Saami Ranga.

Venkatesh emerged as the winner, both times, during the face-off with Nagarjuna.

Past face-offs

In the year 1989, Venkatesh and Nagarjuna competed at the box office during Sankranthi with Prema and Vijay respectively. Prema became a musical blockbuster, while Vijay turned out to be a flop.

For Sankranthi in 1992, Venkatesh’s Chanti was released on 10 January. Nagarjuna’s thriller Killer was released the same day, too. While Chanti emerged as an industry hit, Killer achieved average success.

Despite Venkatesh’s positive reputation, the rivalry still persists between Nagarjuna and Venkatesh fans for many years over box-office records.

Now, as they lock horns after several years — if not decades, it is going to be an intriguing sight to oldtimers who reminisced about some of their classics.

One has to wait and see if Venkatesh can secure victory in the clash once again or if Nagarjuna will turn the tables this time.

Saindhav’s story is about the protagonist “SaiKO” played by Venkatesh, who struggles to raise funds for her daughter. She is diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy and the medicine vial that can save her costs a whopping ₹17 crore.

Venkatesh is determined to save his daughter but has to cross paths with the character played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. However, his dark past begins to haunt him as he clashes with his old rivals.

The action thriller is hitting worldwide on 13 January.

Saindhav is directed by Sailesh Kolanu and stars Venkatesh in the lead. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Shraddha Srinath, and Ruhani Sharma play key characters.

Meanwhile, Nagarjuna’s Naa Saami Ranga is loosely based on real events that happened in Thrissur in the 1980s and 1990s. It is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Porinju Mariam Jose.

It is directed by Vijay Binni and stars Nagarjuna in the lead role. Allari Naresh plays his close buddy.

Raj Tharun, Ashika Ranganath, Mirnaa Menon, and Rukshar Dhillon play significant roles.

The story and dialogues are written by Prasanna Kumar Bezawada and the music is by Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravaani.
