Senior actor Meka Srikanth has a very distinct filmography in Telugu as he’s portrayed a wide variety of onscreen characters. He is playing the role of a police constable named Ramakrishna in the upcoming Telugu film Kotabommali PS, which is an adaptation of the Malayalam superhit flick Nayattu (2021).

When asked how satisfactory his three-decade-long film journey has been, he says that acting might be the happiest career among the 24 crafts, but the actor in you is never satisfied.

“Every character on screen is a new journey. How to impress audiences? How to ace it? These are some of the questions that keep hovering over me when I sign a movie. Also how much you love the work that you do is important. And everything else is a bonus, I feel,” says the 55-year-old.

The actor had to learn the Srikakulam slang for the role.

“The story revolves around three characters. Myself, Rahul Vijay, and Shivani Rajasekhar. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will be our superior in-charge who tries to arrest us,” he adds.

The films that Srikanth has done previously have all been commercial potboilers — songs, action, and emotional drama as key ingredients.

However, he says that he was drawn to the character-driven story of Kotabommali PS when the director narrated it to him.

Starting from the role he played in Khadgam (2002), the actor admits that police roles have fetched well for him. “The applause for my role as a police officer was tremendous back then. In a way, the film brought back the memories of Khadgam in my mind. This film, too, has the same vibe but a different plot.”

Speaking about Kotabommali PS, Srikanth says, “It is a story of a middle-class constable. Although it is a remake of the Malayalam superhit film, we had to make changes that suited the sensibilities of the Telugu audiences. This is the most out-and-out, full-length character I’ve done in recent times.”

“I have played a role that has a lot of scope for performance. The body language of the police and their attitude should be portrayed in the right proportions to get that realistic appeal on screen,” he adds.

‘Lingidi Lingidi’ folksong

After the release of the “Lingidi Lingidi” single from the film, the buzz that has been created around the film is humongous.

About the team, Srikanth says, “The whole team is confident that we could make it. I used to tell actors Rahul and Shiva that sincerity is crucial for any artiste. Rahul is a very down-to-earth person. Seeing him is like seeing myself in the beginning days of my film career.”

“Our Telugu girl Shivani Rajasekhar also does good roles. Audiences will like Murali Sharma’s role as a politician. Hope everything works well for Kota Bommali PS,” he says.

Srikanth is also playing important roles in upcoming films like the Ram Charan-starrer Game Changer and NTR-starrer Devara.
