'Grrr' to make OTT debut on Disney+ Hotstar on 20 August

Grrr, headlined by Kunchako Boban and Suraj Venjaramoodu, is all set to make its OTT debut on Disney+ Hotstar on 20 August.

The OTT giant took to social media to announce that Grrr will be premiered on 20 August. It also shared a poster of the film.

Grrr received a decent response from audiences upon its theatrical release on 14 June. It was inspired by a real-life incident reported in 2018 in the Trivandrum Zoo, where a man jumped into a lion’s enclosure.

The scenes involving the lion, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Kunchako Boban in an enclosure in the zoo left the viewers in splits.

Grrr was helmed by director Jay K, who debuted with the horror film Ezra (2017), a box-office success.

The film was scripted jointly by Jay K and Praveen S. Director Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval was the production designer.

Kunchako Boban portrayed the role of Reji Mon, a struggling entrepreneur, who falls in love with the daughter of a politician belonging to an upper caste. Needless to say, caste becomes an issue for the couple to get married.

One day, a dejected Reji Mon jumps into a lion’s enclosure in a zoo under the influence of alcohol. Suraj Venjaramoodu, who works in the zoo, launches a rescue operation. The incident gets wide media attention. The events that follow keep the story moving forward.

Suraj Venjaramoodu and Kunchako Boban’s brilliant onscreen chemistry and the lion’s performance became a major highlight of the flick.

Both actors worked together earlier on Pullipulikalum Aatinkuttiyum (2013) and Varnyathil Aashanka (2017), both comedy entertainers.

Shaji Nadesan and Arya produced the film under the banners of August Cinemas, along with Cineholix. Grrr had cinematography by Jayesh Nair and editing by Vivek Harshan.

Dawn Vincent, Kailas Menon, and Tony Tars composed the music and background score. Manu Manjith was the lyricist. Songs were another highlight of the film.

Grrr also dealt with caste politics in a satirical way and featured how today’s media sensationalised every issue for TRPs.
