Mohanlal faces online backlash for skipping Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya

Mohanlal went to the US to shoot for his film 'L2: Empuraan', which was why he reportedly did not attend the event in Ayodhya.

Mohanlal trolled for skipping Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya

Malayalam superstar Mohanlal was among the invitees for the Pran Pratishtha event held in Ayodhya for the consecration of the Ram idol on Monday, 22 January.

The star-studded event saw the presence of Bollywood actors to South Indian superstars.

Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Chiranjeevi, and Pawan Kalyan were some of the high-profile actors who were part of the Ram Mandir consecration.

However, Mohanlal, who hails from Kerala which is not a stronghold of right-wing forces, did not attend the consecration. This raised the eyebrows of the Ram temple supporters.

Faces online backlash for not visiting Ayodhya

Mohanlal’s new movie Malaikottai Vaaliban is all set for release on 25 January. Discussions in TV channels and other platforms suggested that Mohanlal played a safe game as he did not want his movie to get affected.

Industry insiders felt that the decision of the actor to not attend the Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya was a “safe choice” as enjoys a fan base from different streams of life.

However, the right-wing supporters were upset with Mohanlal.

In a post where Mohanlal shared a picture of Malaikottai Vaaliban, many right-wing supporters commented that they would boycott the film since he skipped the consecration ceremony.

Nevertheless, in a recent interview, Mohanlal revealed that he will be travelling to the US for the shooting of his forthcoming movie L2: Empuraan. It is learnt that this was the reason why he was not present at the Ram Temple inauguration in Ayodhya.

Meanwhile, a few netizens who did not support the Ram Mandir inaugural came in support of Mohanlal.

However, some lauded Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan, who endorsed the ruling BJP and Prime Minister Modi before. He held a small pooja on the sets of his upcoming film Get Set Baby.

The young actor was praised as a real hero for upholding the dignity of the Ram Temple.

Malayalam actors showcase Preamble

Meanwhile, on the day of the Ram Temple consecration, many actors and directors shared the Preamble of the Constitution on their social media pages to protest against the event.

Actors Parvathy Thiruvothu, Rima Kallingal, and Shane Nigam, and directors Aashiq Abu and Jeo Baby voiced their concerns about the Ram Mandir.

Singer Vidhu Prathap also shared a post on Facebook against the importance of religion in society.

However, all these posts against Ram Mandir faced online backlash from right-wing supporters.
