As Malayalam superstar Mammootty turns 73 on Saturday, 7 September, fans have another reason to celebrate. The official poster and title of Mammootty’s latest movie with Gautham Vasudev Menon, Dominic and The Lady’s Purse, have been unveiled.
The project marks the renowned filmmaker’s debut in Malayalam cinema, making it even more anticipated.
The first-look poster, which was revealed on Mammootty’s birthday, features the actor in a room set up for an investigation, with a cat seen in the background, possibly hinting at it being the protagonist’s pet.
While it’s unclear if Mammootty will be investigating his case or will play the role of Dominic, the first-look poster has already sparked curiosity among fans.
Dominic and The Lady’s Purse is billed as an investigative thriller. It is currently being shot in Kochi and Munnar. The cast includes Gokul Suresh, Lena, and Viji Venkatesh, known for her performance in Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum (2023). Reports claim that Nayanthara will play the leading lady in this venture.
Mammootty’s production house, Mammootty Kampany, is behind this Gautham Menon movie. This marks the sixth venture of the banner. Its previous release, Turbo (2024), was a box-office success and is now streaming on SonyLIV.
Gautham Menon’s debut in Malayalam cinema has been highly anticipated, especially after the director expressed his interest in working with Fahadh Faasil and Mammootty.
While Dominic and The Lady’s Purse is Gautam Menon’s first Malayalam film, he made a brief appearance in Anwar Rasheed’s Trance in 2020.
Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting Mammootty’s postponed film with Mahesh Narayanan, which also stars Suresh Gopi and Fahadh Faasil. The film is expected to go on floors next year.
Mammootty’s birthday celebrations are a testament to his enduring star power and ability to keep surprising audiences with fresh and diverse roles.
A stalwart of the Malayalam film industry with over 40 years of experience, the actor continues to push boundaries with every movie. For instance, he was last seen experimenting with his looks and character in Bramayugam (2024), a blockbuster hit. A horror thriller, the film showcased his versatility and the actor was seen taking on a negative role.
In Kaathal-The Core (2024), he portrayed a closeted gay man.
Meanwhile, in his upcoming project Bazooka, a game thriller, Mammootty sports a stylish look with a ponytail.
The actor is also known for giving opportunities to new directors. Bazooka is helmed by Deeno Dennis, a debutant director and son of veteran scriptwriter Kaloor Dennis.
Mammootty’s commitment to encouraging fresh talent is one of the many reasons for his enduring relevance in the industry. Here’s wishing the superstar many more successes!
