Malayalam watchlist: ‘Varshangalkku Shesham’ and ‘Aavesham’ frontrunners for Vishu-Eid season

After a blockbuster first quarter, April is touted to be a good month for Mollywood, mainly due to the Vishu-Eid festive season.

Malayalam watchlist for April 2024

After a superhit February 2024, The Malayalam film industry saw only one major release in March – Aadujeevitham (The Goat Life), which won the audiences’ hearts. The film is expected to have a good run in April, too.

Meanwhile, April is touted to be a good month for Mollywood, mainly due to the Vishu-Eid festive season.

Four major films are slated for release in April 2024.

Vineeth Sreenivasan will be back with Varshangalkku Shesham.

Aavesham, headlined by Fahadh Faasil, is directed by Romancham-fame Jithu Madhavan.

Unni Mukundan’s Jai Ganesh and Indrajith Sukumaran’s Marivillin Gopurangal are the two other Malayalam films that made it to the watchlist in April.

Varshangalkku Shesham

Varshangalkku Shesham, helmed by actor-director-producer Vineeth Sreenivasan, marks the reunion of Vineeth with Hridayam (2022) actors Pranav Mohanlal and Kalyani Priyadarshan.

It is produced by Visakh Subramaniam, who earlier collaborated with Vineeth for Hridayam.

The movie will hit the screens on 11 April and has huge expectations.

The film has an ensemble cast, including Dhyan Sreenivasan, Pranav Mohanlal, Aju Varghese, Nivin Pauly, Basil Joseph, Neeraj Madhav, and Kalyani Priyadarshan.

Madhu Pakaroo“, the first single from Varshangalkku Shesham, featured Pranav Mohanal.

The music was composed by Amrith Ramanath and the lyrics were penned by Vineeth Sreenivasan. Vineeths also sang the song.

The trailer gave the impression that it is set in the 1990s in the Kodambakkam area in Madras (now Chennai) and revolves around two friends, who are passionate about films.

Aavesham

Directed by Jithu Madhavan, Aavesham is touted to be a wholesome action comedy entertainer.

Similar to Jithu Madhavan’s RomahchamAavesham is also inspired by true events.

The Malayalam film narrates the story of a group of college students and a goon who comes to help them.

The music is composed by Sushin Shyam. Two songs — “Jaada” and “Galatta” — have been trending on charbusters since their launch.

Thanks to the teaser and songs, expectations are running high for the venture.

Aavesham teaser showcased Fahadh Faasil in a new look — as a ruthless don named Rangan.

The flick also stars Manzoor Ali Khan, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sajin Gopu, the famous Malayali gamer and Youtuber Hipzster, Mithun JS, Roshan Shanavas, Pooja Mohanraj, Neeraja Rajendran, Sreejith Nair, and Thankam Mohan.

Aavesham is produced jointly by Anwar Rasheed under the banner of Anwar Rasheed Entertainments in association with Nazriya Nazim under the banner of Fahadh Faasil and Friends.

It is distributed by A&A Films — known for Mammootty’s superhit flick Bheeshma Parvam (2022).

Sameer Thahir is the cinematographer. Vivek Harshan is the editor.

The film will hit the screens on 11 April for the Vishu-Eid festive season and is the most-anticipated in the Malayalam watchlist for April 2024.

Marivillin Gopurangal 

Marivillin Gopurangal, directed by Arun Bose, will be released on 12 April.

The Malayalam movie features Indrajith Sukumaran, Sarjano Khalid, Shruti Ramachandran, and Win C Aloshious in the key roles.

The film was supposed to hit the screens in March but was postponed for some reason.

The makers announced the new release date via their social media handles.

The promos of Marivillin Gopurangal suggest that it is a romantic comedy.

Marivillin Gopurangal is directed by Arun Bose, who earlier helmed Luca (2021).

Jai Ganesh

Jai Ganesh is a Ranjith Sankar’s direcotiral. It stars Unni Mukundan and Mahima Nambiar in the lead roles.

It is touted to be a motivational film with elements of a superhero. The title of the movie justifies this take. It is slated for release on 11 April for the Vishu-Eid festive season.

Jai Ganesh has an ensemble cast, including Ashokan, Jomol, Ravindra Vijay, Hareesh Perady, and Nandu.

Chandru Selvaraj is the cinematographer. Sankar Sharma composed the music.

The makers recently released the first-look poster, where Unni Mukundan is seen in a wheel chair.
