August watchlist Malayalam

The Malayalam industry is looking forward to the Onam releases as it direly needs a super-hit after 2018.

Films like 18 Plus, Madhura Manohara Moham, and Padmini did a decent fare at the box office this year (2023). Dileep’s Voice of Sathyanathan, which was released on 28 July, gained momentum and is drawing audiences to theatres.

Dulquer Salmaan’s King of Kotha is one of the most-anticipated projects this year.

Meanwhile, Nivin Pauly is looking for a hit with Ramachandra Boss & Co as his earlier films this year didn’t do well at the box office.

RDX is another much-awaited film starring Antony Varghese, Shane Nigam, and Neeraj Madhav in key roles.

King of Kotha

King of Kotha is the much-anticipated film in Malayalam this year and the biggest movie in Dulquer Salmaan’s career so far.

Directed by debutant Abhilash Joshiy, the movie has elements needed for a commercial film. The trailer and the first song raised expectations among the audience.

In the song, Dulquer Salmaan and Ritika Singh were seen dancing to the tunes composed by Jakes Bejoy. The song was released in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu.

King of Kotha also stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, Dancing Rose Shabeer, Shammi Thilakan, Gokul Suresh, Nyla Usha, Senthil, Shanthi Krishna, and Anikha Surendran.

It is releasing in theatres on 24 August for Onam.

The first single of RDX was released recently. Its music is composed by Sam CS.

The film is set in Kochi and the three lead characters — Robert, Dony, and Xavier — are played by Shane, Antony, and Neeraj respectively.

The film also casts Mahima Nambiar, Lal, and Aima Sebastian in key roles.

It is produced by Weekend Blockbusters who had earlier produced Minnal Murali (2021) and Bangalore Days (2014).

RDX is expected to hit the marquee for Onam this August. It’s releasing on 25 August.
