The Sandalwood has witnessed the release of at least 70 films so far this year.
However, with elections of the Karnataka Assembly round the corner and the Indian Premier League (IPL) reaching its final stages, it is set for a low-key affair in May with no major releases.
While a couple of movies were initially planned for release in May, including pan-Indian flick Martin, the makers pushed the release dates to June/July.
Based on the renowned Kannada writer Poornachandra Tejaswi’s story “Leaps from Pages to Celluloid”, Daredevil Musthafa is set to hit the screens on 19 May.
More than 100 die-hard fans of Poornachandra Tejaswi have come together (crowdfunded) to produce this film directed by Shashank Soghal.
Actor Daali Dhananjay is presenting it.
PRK Audio, the music label owned by the late Dr Puneeth Rajkumar, extended its support by purchasing the audio rights.
Daredevil Musthafa is distributed by KRG Studios, one of the top Kannada film distributors.
The movie stars Mandya Ramesh, Shishir Baikady (who plays the titular character Jamal Abdul Musthafa Hussain), Aditya Ashree, Abhay, Supreeth Bharadwaj, Aashith, Srivatsa, and Prerana.

Prabhuthva talks about the importance of voting to democratically elect our leaders to run the government. It is a perfect movie to watch as the people of Karnataka are all set to franchise their vote on 10 May.
The film stars Chetan Chandra, Paavana, Shashikumar, Honnavalli Krishna, Ambika, Sharath Lohitashwa, Nassar, Roopa Devi, Adi Lokesh, Avinash, and Rajesh Nataranga. It is releasing on 5 May.
Prabhutva was recently in the news for its director R Ranganatha.
Its writer Megadahalli Dr Shivakumar and the film unit told the media that Ranganatha failed to do justice to the flick. They alleged that the director did no work but minted money from the producer since it was his debut.
Following this, the makers changed the credit for direction from Ranganatha to Megadahalli Dr Shivakumar.
Written and directed by Abhiraam, Present Prapancha 0% Love (There’s No True Love in Present Days) is releasing on 12 May. Sadly, the director and the lead actors passed away due to Covid in April 2021.
Dr DS Manjunath, who produced films like Samyukta 2 and Chemistry of Kariappa in Kannada, was later roped in as the male lead.
Present Prapancha 0% Love also features Yashash Abhi, Tabla Nani, Om Prakash Rao and S Narayan in significant roles.
