May watchlist: ‘2018’ and ‘Voice of Sathyanathan’ among major releases in Malayalam

Malayalam cinema is set to witness a plethora of releases this May, of which, the majority have newcomers as directors and actors.

Malayalam cinema is all set to witness a plethora of releases this May, of which, the majority have newcomers as directors and actors.

Theatres are expecting good footfalls as films like Pookkaalam, Neelavelicham, and Kadina Kadoramee Andakadaham released in April this year have won the hearts of audiences. The new films being released are also giving hope to the industry. Here’s the watchlist:

Charles Enterprises

Charles Enterprises — starring Urvashi, Balu Varghese, and Guru Somasundaram in prominent roles — is all set for release on 5 May. The trailer suggests that the movie will be an out-and-out entertainer.

The film is produced by Dr Ajith Joy and Achu Vijayan under the banner of Joy Movie Productions. It is written and directed by debutant Subhash Lalitha Subrahmanian.

Tamil actor Kalaiyarasan debuts in Malayalam with Charles Enterprises. It also casts Sujith Shanker, Abhija Sivakala, Manikandan Achari, Banu, Mridula Madhav, and Sudheer Paravoor in key roles.

The cinematography is by T Swaroop Philip. Subramanian KV is handling the music.

2018

2018 is a new Malayalam movie based on the deadly Kerala floods that occurred in the year 2018. The floods affected the lives of many Malayalees.

The film is written and directed by Jude Anthony Joseph. It features Tovino Thomas, Asif Ali, Kunchacko Boban, and Aparna Balamurali in lead roles. It ‘ is up for release on 5 May.

2018 is produced by Anto Joseph and Venu Kunnappily. Akhil George handled the cinematography, while Nobil Paul composed the music.

Voice of Sathyanathan

Dileep’s Voice of Sathyanathan is a highly-anticipated movie that will be released on 12 May. Directed by Raffi, it is touted to be a comedy entertainer.

Bollywood actor Anupam Kher will be playing an important role in the movie.

Apart from Dileep, Voice of Sathyanathan also features Joju George, Makrand Deshpande, Jagapathi Babu, Sminu Sijo, Anusree, and Johny Antony in pivotal roles.

Nalla Nilavulla Rathri

Written and directed by debutant Murphy Devasy, Nalla Nilavulla Rathri features Chemban Vinod Jose, Jinu Joseph, Binu Pappu, Ganapathi, Sajin Cherukayil, and Nithin George in lead roles.

Ajay David Kachappilly is the cinematographer and Syam Sasidharan is the editor.

Kailas composed the music and Vishnu Govind is the sound designer.

Nalla Nilavulla Rathri is produced by Sandra Thomas. It will hit the theatres on 12 May.

Jackson Bazar Youth

Jackson Bazar Youth is based on the theme of band-set performances that are common in festivals. The story reportedly revolves around friendship and other elements.

It is directed by debutant director Shamal Sulaiman. Appu N Bhattathiri is the editor and Govind Vasantha is the music composer.

Jackson Bazar Youth is produced by Zakaria. A new song “Palliperunnal” from the movie was recently released by the crew.

Lukman Avaran, Mathew Thomas, Indrans, and Abhiram Radhakrishnan are part of its cast . The film will be released on 28 May.
