After Hombale Films, it’s now the turn of Kannada politician-actor-producer BC Patil to venture into the Malayalam film industry.

Following the poll debacle, Karnataka’s former agriculture minister BC Patil is returning to filmmaking. His next includes the Malayalam film Kaadu, starring Fahadh Faasil in the lead.

Interestingly, Hombale Films, too, is debuting in Mollywood with Fahadh Faasil’s Dhoomam, directed by Pawan Kumar.

Three films in pipeline

Presently, the actor-politician has two Kannada projects and a Malayalam film in the pipeline.

The Malayalam movie titled Kaadu is co-produced under his banner Kourava Production House.

The Kannada films include Kousalya Supraja Rama directed by Shashank with Darling Krishna in the lead and Garadi directed by Yogaraj Bhat of Mungaru Male (2006) fame, a milestone in the Kannada film industry.

Shrushti Patil, daughter of BC Patil and executive producer said Garadi marks the 16th film from their banner (Srushti Films) and the first one under their new banner — Kourava Production House.

“We would like to be recognised as one of the premier production houses in India by bankrolling quality movies that are high in content and filmmaking standards in the coming days. Apart from Kousalya Supraja Rama and Garadi, both of which are ready to hit the screens, we are also co-producing Fahadh Faasil’s upcoming film titled Kaadu,” she added.

Garadi

His latest venture Garadi, directed by Yogaraj Bhat, revolves around the traditional wrestling sport.

“The film also deals with the teacher-student relationship. Patil sir will be seen as a wrestling coach and actor Soorya as his student. Soorya and others underwent actual training in wrestling schools (Garadi) and even some real wrestlers will be seen on the screen,” said Yogaraj Bhat.

A special number “Hodiri Halagi” featuring Nishvika Naidu was released by Dr Shiva Rajkumar and Indian dancing sensation Prabhudeva.

From cop to minister

Before plunging into full-time acting and producing films, BC Patil worked as a police officer serving in Karnataka.

After his stint as an actor in a small role in Sangharsha (1993), he debuted in production with Nishkarsha (1993) made under his banner Srusti Films. It is directed by Sunil Kumar Desai starring the late Dr Vishnuvardhan, Anant Nag, and himself in a negative role.

Nishkarsha film is one of the finest heist-thrillers in Sandalwood to date.

Patil’s most popular film Kourava (1998) earned him recognition and accolades as an actor in the lead. Hence his banner has been named Kourava Production House.

A three-time MLA from Hirekerur Assembly, BC Patil lost to the Congress party’s Basavanappa Ujaneshwar by 15,020 votes in the recently-concluded Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023.

He is one among the 17 MLAs from Congress who defected to the BJP to bring down the Congress-JD(S) coalition government.
