MS Dhoni launches the audio and trailer of LGM

Cricketing legend MS Dhoni on Monday, 10 July, joked away that he wasn’t the one who taught his wife Sakshi Dhoni bad words in Tamil. “To start, I did not teach any bad words in Tamil to Sakshi. The reason is simple. I don’t know any in Tamil,” he guffawed.

He was addressing the audio and trailer launch event of LGM (Let’s Get Married), a film that has been produced by his wife Sakshi Dhoni’s production house Dhoni Entertainment.

Dhoni’s clarification came in the wake of Sakshi’s announcement that Dhoni taught her Tamil in 2010 and that she could now understand the language and also speak a few words.

When the anchor kept demanding that she speak more, Sakshi Dhoni said the other words that she knew were actually bad words in the language, thus evoking laughter from the audience.

Dhoni launched the trailer and the audio of the Tamil film in the presence of his wife Sakshi and a host of celebrities and fans.

After having set the record straight, Dhoni said he did watch LGM. “It is a clean entertainer. I can watch it with my daughter. The cast did a fantastic job and I am proud of the way the team handled this project.”

He further added, “Director Ramesh Thamilmani is also an architect. The only thing I told my wife when she wanted to make a feature film was, ‘Once you commit to it, just start it. Forget everything else.’ This is one of the main reasons why the team was able to finish the movie in record time.”

Dhoni recalled: “I only insisted on serving tasty food. Whether it is the cast or crew, the food must be good and that’s the only thing we cricketers ever want.”

He said, “LGM is an equation among three people — mother-in-law, daughter-in-law and son. It is about how he gets sandwiched between the two.”

On the occasion, the cricketer revealed that Chennai holds a special place for him in his life. “I believe in destiny. My test debut happened in Chennai. My highest test score happened here. When it comes to cricket, there are lots of things that I am proud of happening in Chennai.”

‘All for a cricket bat signed by Dhoni’

Meanwhile, actor-comedian Yogi Babu disclosed that director Thamilmani got him on board LGM by promising him a cricket bat signed by MS Dhoni.

“I thank Dhoni sir and Sakshi madam for making their first film in Tamil. When director Ramesh Thamilmani approached me, I thought he was pulling a fast one. Eventually, I realised he was serious about making a film for Dhoni Entertainment,” Yogi Babu recollected.

“But when I pointed out that getting common dates from stars like Nadiya madam and Harish Kalyan might be a problem, Tamilmani was unfazed. He said he would get me a cricket bat signed by Dhoni sir himself if I gave him the dates he wanted. I immediately asked my manager to give him dates.”

The actor hastened to add: “Sakshi madam said she became my fan after watching Mandela (2021). The credit for that goes to the film’s director Ashwin Madonne.”

He also thanked the entire team of Dhoni Entertainment for making LGM happen.

A lifetime opportunity

Tamil film distributor Sakthivelan of Sakthi Film Factory expressed his immense pleasure in associating with Dhoni Entertainment.

“I had the opportunity to watch the first 35 minutes of LGM even before its re-recording and I enjoyed it thoroughly. My director-friend Ramesh helped me approach Dhoni Entertainment for the distribution of the movie. This film is a lifetime opportunity for me.”

Sakthivelan recalled that top distributors vied with each other for the rights of LGM soon after the teaser launch date was announced.

“Given the competition, I was worried if I’d get the distribution rights since the team only gave me a verbal assurance. But Dhoni sir said, ‘If it is verbally agreed, then it is agreed.’ For him, this might have been an ordinary moment. But for me, this is a moment that I will cherish in my life,” he noted.

LGM was supposed to release on 7 July but has been postponed due to technical issues. However, the teaser of the movie was released the same day. It is expected to hit the screens this month.

The rom-com features Harish Kalyan, Ivana and Nadiya in the lead. It is directed by Ramesh Thamilmani who also scored the music for the film.
