Manchu Vishnu and Sunny Leone-starrer Ginna is among the notable releases this weekend. It made news more for Sunny Leone’s presence than for Vishnu. interestingly, this is the first full-length Telugu movie featuring Leone.

Let’s check if she delivered the much-needed hit for Manchu Vishnu who has been going through a rough patch.

Gali Nageshwar Rao aka Ginna (Manchu Vishnu) lives in Rangampet village near Tirupati. He does not like to be called by his full name and hence gets popular as Ginna.

Burdened by debts, Ginna runs a tent house for a living. But he aims to become the president of his village to carry forward his father’s legacy. However, he faces obstacles in the form of Tippeswamy (Raghubabu) and his associates.

While Ginna along with his childhood friends Swathi (Payal Rajput) and Saddam is making efforts to come out of all the debts and settle in life, his life takes an altogether different turn with the arrival of Renuka (Sunny Leone).

The movie answers questions like how Ginna’s life gets a twist with Renuka’s entry and why she visits Rangampet all the way from the US.

Debutant Suryaah banks on comedy

Ginna’s story is written by senior writer Kona Venkat who is known for his entertainers.

Debutant director Suryaah completely banked on comedy to keep the audience interested in the proceedings.

With Sunny Leone being the centre of the action, the film also gets erotic at some points. Though there is also a horror angle to the story, the director banked on humour to turn this horror comedy into a commercial entertainer.

The film has a shortcoming: though the story has enough substance to keep the audience engaged, the director takes too long to get into the actual story.

He spends much of the first half setting the stage for the main plot and elevating the hero on the lines of regular commercial masala flicks.

Ginna would have been a better movie, had Suryaah stuck to no-nonsense filmmaking by falling prey to commercial considerations.

It’s Sunny Leone all the way

Manchu Vishnu has been struggling at the box office, of late, and has pinned all his hopes on Ginna. Hence, he had put in all his efforts and that’s visible on the screen.

Be it in dances or fights, he worked hard. But the actual hero of the movie is Sunny Leone.

She is the one who drives the whole story and carries the entire movie on her shoulders.

Leone shines in this horror comedy. She got a meaty role and her fans will certainly love her in this flick. Though a role like this is a bit heavy for her, she did her part.

Payal Rajput appears as a village belle and the love interest of Vishnu.

When it comes to the supporting cast, comedians are a big plus for Ginna.

Chammak Chandra and Vennela Kishore are hilarious. Senior actor Naresh also impresses in a negative role.

Music and cinematography

Anup Rubens composed the music. As the makers wanted to bring out a commercial masala entertainer, he seems to have toed the same line.

As a result, we miss Anup’s trademark style. However, songs like Jaru Mithaya… became mass hits. The BGM is ok.

Senior cinematographer Chota K Naidu handled the camera and did a decent job.

Final take

Ginna is a horror comedy which attempts to be a commercial entertainer. If not for anything, you can watch it for Sunny Leone!
