Coffee With Kadhal review: The film is just as haywire as the relationships it features

Director Sundar C always leans towards making a comedy that has some element of drama but his latest release is a clear miss.

Coffee With Kadhal (Tamil)

  • Cast: Jiiva, Jai, Srikanth. Malvika Sharma, Amritha Aiyer, Raiza Wilson, Aishwarya Dutta, Samyuktha Shanmuganathan and Dhivyadharshini
  • Director: Sundar C
  • Producers: Kushboo Sundar and ACS Arun Kumar
  • Music: Yuvan Shankar Raja
  • Runtime: 2 hours 40 minutes

Ravi (Srikanth), Saravanan (Jiiva), Kathir (Jai) and Dhivyadarshini (Dhivyadarshini) are siblings. The three brothers are different from each other.

But they share one thing in common: they are terrible when it comes to relationships. At one stage, the three brothers undergo major turmoil in their love lives.

Saravanan’s live-in girlfriend of three years, Neetu (Aishwarya Dutta), dumps him for a star. Kathir (Jai) wants to marry a rich girl, Diya (Malvika Sharma) because he covets her property.

Meanwhile, Ravi, though married, ends up having a one-night stand with Sara (Raiza Wilson).

Can this get any messier? According to Coffee With Kadhal, it definitely can and does.

Neither comical nor a drama

Director Sundar C delivered some excellent films. But his last few releases have been below average.

He always leans towards making a comedy that has some element of drama but Coffee With Kadhal is a clear miss.

The separate comedy track featuring Yogi Babu and Redin Kingsley is a miss, too.

The story seems to have been written in the 1980s and has such a weak plot that it is neither a comedy nor a drama.

It has too many actors who deliver some absolutely silly lines and scenes, making one wonder why.

It’s a clear miss

All the possible emotions seem to have been forced into Coffee With Kadhal and all possible serious issues in relationships — unhappy husbands, live-in relationships, one-night stands, philandering, and so on — are seen with a comical twist.

Yet, miraculously the three wayward brothers find love and live happily ever after, too.

Yuvan Shankar Raja makes a cameo appearance and scored the music for this film, and this doesn’t add any value either.

Alas, you need something much stronger than coffee to get you through this film!

Here’s hoping Sundar C comes back to form soon. Cheers!
