Bhola Shankar

Megastar Chiranjeevi-starrer Bhola Shankar has hit a new roadblock as its last-minute attempts seeking a  ticket price hike have been denied by the Andhra Pradesh government.

The film also casts Tamannaah Bhatia and Keerthy Suresh as female leads and Vennela Kishore, Raghu Babu, Murali Sharma, and Ravi Shankar in key roles.

The makers sought a rise in ticket price by ₹25 in single-screen theatres and multiplexes by claiming that the budget exceeded ₹100 crore, excluding Chiranjeevi’s remuneration.

However, Andhra Pradesh State Film Television and Theatre Development Corporation Ltd painted a different picture saying that the flick ultimately falls short of being eligible for a ticket price hike.

A communication from the Corporation said the makers of Bhola Shankar did not register the project with it 10 days prior to the commencement of shooting. Also, they did not submit any proofs that fulfil the condition that at least 20 percent of the censored length was shot in the locations in Andhra Pradesh.

Nevertheless, the makers made a last-ditch effort stating that the movie exceeded a budget of ₹100 crore.

Bhola Shankar was supposed to submit a sworn-in affidavit to the Andhra Pradesh Film Corporation as a super high-budget Telugu film. The production house is supposed to submit a full income tax return, along with a tax audit report issued by CA and audited financial statements which they did not comply.

No massive sets or visual effects

Meanwhile, netizens started debating how a commercial potboiler with little action can claim to have spent ₹100 crore.

Going by the looks of the trailer, Bhola Shankar didn’t have any massive film sets, nor did it has visual effects.

This Telugu remake of the Tamil movie Vedalam (2015) is directed by Meher Ramesh and produced by Anil Sunkara under the banner of AK Entertainments.

However, given the massive hype that the movie garnered over the past few months, it is expected to make a kill at the box office on day one — 11 August.
