Jailer and Bhola Shankar

Superstar Rajinikanth’s film Jailer is all likely to rule the Telugu box office this weekend. Cashing on the censor talk, the Rajinikanth-starrer is likely to gain the edge over Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar.

It is learnt that Jailer fetched a positive talk from the Censor Board. However, Bhola Shankar apparently has the ingredients to appease the Megastar fans.

As the film has another 48 hours left for the screening of its first premiere, there’s unease among the fans as the film ran into a controversy.

Producer cheated me: Distributor

A distributor named Satish from Visakhapatnam alleged that the makers of Bhola Shankar cheated him of ₹30 crore.

He alleged that producer Anil Sunkura, who was also the maker of Akhil Akkineni’s Agent (2023), duped him into giving the distribution rights of the film to one region. The same happened with director Ram Abbaraju’s Samajavaragamana (2023) starring Sree Vishnu and Reba Monica John.

And now, Anil Sunkara sold the rights of Bhola Shankar to other people causing him severe financial loss, the distributor said in a video statement.

Satish also filed a case demanding a stay on the release of Bhola Shankar.

Meanwhile, Anil Sunkara refuted the allegations saying the distributor Satish falsely accused him with the help of fake documents.

Amid this controversy, netizens feel that the producers (AK Entertainments) should tackle the issue on a war footing basis because the buyers in Andhra Pradesh are preparing for online sales.

The advance bookings for the film in Nizam began three days ago.

Whether the court can grant a stay on Bhola Shankar depends on the evidence that Satish provides to the court.

Bhola Shankar starring Chiranjeevi, Tamannah Bhatia, and Keerthy Suresh, is a remake of Tamil flick Vedalam (2015). The Telugu movie is releasing in theatres worldwide on Friday, 11 August.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth’s Jailer will be released on Thursday, 10 August.

Materialised after several twists

Do you know how Bhola Shankar took shape amid a dramatic turn of events?

Vedalam, the Tamil-language action film garnered a positive talk at the Tamil box office in 2015.

Starring Ajith Kumar, Shruti Hassan, and Lakshmi Menon in the leads, the Tamil flick was a mass hit. The makers in Tollywood decided to dub it in Telugu with the title “Avesam” (rage).

The hit number “Aaluma Doluma” was also released in Telugu. However, the film was halted indefinitely.

Later, they planned to do a remake with Pawan Kalyan on board. Tamil filmmaker RT Neason and AM Ratnam came forward to kickstart the project. However, the project was shelved amid dramatic circumstances after the puja ceremony.

After various speculations, the movie finally landed in the hands of Chiranjeevi.

Initially, he checked with other directors to helm the film. However, during the Covid-induced lockdowns, Meher Ramesh who is a close relative of the Mega family spearheaded the relief work. Thus, Chiranjeevi wanted to give something to Ramesh out of gratitude.

Along with Anil Sunkara, senior producer KS Rama Rao, who is also close to Megastar, has been inducted into the project as a partner.

But, due to unknown reasons, Rama Rao, who co produced the film, walked out of the movie.

Bhola Shankar faced several initial hiccups before going on the sets. And finally, it will see the light on 11 August.
