As ‘Manjummel Boys’ grosses ₹50 crore, team meets Kamal Haasan in Chennai

The Malayalam movie collected a gross of over ₹2 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office alone.

Malayalam movie Manjummel Boys has become the third movie to enter the ₹50-crore club in just seven days of its release.

Premalu and Bramayugam, released in early February, also grossed ₹50 crore worldwide.

A survival thriller, Manjummel Boys narrates the tale of 10 friends who leave for Guna caves in Kodaikanal and get trapped inside the cave.

It was released on 22 February and opened to rave reviews.

It created hype among the youth as the film team visited several colleges across Kerala for promotions.

Meeting Kamal Haasan is climax of the film: Chidambaram

Team Manjummel Boys met Tamil star actor Kamal Haasan on Wednesday, 28 February in Chennai.

Director Chidambaram posted related pictures on his social media account.

Upon the release of the flick, Chidambaram said Manjummel Boys pays tribute to Kamal Haasan and his blockbuster hit Guna.

After meeting the veteran actor, the filmmaker described the moment as “the climax of Manjummel Boys.

When asked what Kamal Haasan felt after watching the movie, Chidambaram stated that Kamal sir asked him how he shot various scenes in the film.

“Had Guna (1984) not been made, Manjummel Boys would not have happened,” he added.

Team meets Udhayanidhi Stalin

Later, the team visited some theatres in Chennai where Manjummel Boys was being screened.

The team also met Tamil Nadu Minister Udayanidhi Stalin, who recently was all praise for the flick.

On his X platform, Udhayanidhi posted pictures of his meeting with the movie team. “My congratulations to the team for delivering quality work in all the aspects, be it background music, cinematography, writing, visuals,” he wrote.

Overwhelming response in Tamil Nadu

Upon its release, Manjummel Boys received an overwhelming response from non-Malayalam-speaking states, especially Tamil Nadu.

It has the popular “Kanmani Anbodu” song from Guna, featuring Kamal Haasan and Roshini. This helped the film connect with the Tamil audience.

As per trade experts, Manjummel Boys collected over ₹2 crore gross at the Tamil Nadu box office alone.

The Vetri Theatre and the Rohini Silver Screens in Chennai are screening the flick on their main screens.

About 100 late-night shows were added on the opening day after it received a good response in Kerala.

It also saw good pre-sales. The film earned ₹1.47 crore in pre-business.

On day 1, the movie earned an estimated ₹3 crore. The film collected about ₹70 lakh at the Tamil Nadu box office on 28 February alone.

Steady business

According to the Sacnilk tracking website, Manjummel Boys collected over ₹ 2.5 crore gross for the consecutive 7th day at the Kerala box office.

It performed well in the first six days and garnered an estimated ₹20.85 crore in the domestic market.

The Malayalam movie collected ₹3.3 crore on day 1, ₹3.25 crore on day 2, ₹4.25 crore on day 3 (Saturday), and ₹4.7 crore on day 4 (Sunday). It garnered ₹2.6 crore on day 5 and ₹2.75 crore on day 6.

The movie is also doing well in Canada, the USA, and the GCC countries.
