Even as the entire country is bursting with excitement ahead of the release of the most-awaited pan-Indian flick Adipurush, the Telugu movie lovers — Prabhas’ army to be precise — are eagerly waiting for the ticket counters to open on Wednesday, 14 June.

Producer TG Vishwa Prasad of People Media Factory, who bagged the theatrical rights of the Prabhas-starrer in the Telugu states for a whopping ₹160 crore, attributed the delay to the ticket fares.

“The delay happened because of the ticket prices. Openings will start from Wednesday in both Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh,” said Vishwa Prasad who recently signed up a project with Rebel Star Prabhas.

Adipurush stars Prabhas as Raghav (Lord Rama), Sunny Singh as Lakshmana, Kriti Sanon as Sita, Devdutta Nage as Bajrang and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (demon king Ravana). Based on the epic Ramayana, the movie is set to hit as many as 6,200 screens across India on 16 June.

Banking on hype

Adipurush has become an emotion of sorts for the right-wing, while for others, it’s a topic of discussion for the visual spectacle that it offers on the screen.

It didn’t stop there; the discussion spilt over to the cubicles of stock-market traders as they have been keeping an eye on advance bookings in PVR Cinemas.

Cashing in on the massive hype for Adipurush, the makers already grossed ₹6 crore with its advance bookings all over the country (without Telugu states).

The governments of both the Telugu states have given permission to hike the ticket price by another ₹50 (applicable for single screens). However, it is applicable for only three days from the release date,” TG Vishwa Prasad revealed.

The Telangana state government’s GO also states that a special show (sixth show) can be run from 16 June. “We’re still thinking about whether to go with the hike of ₹50 or to make it ₹25. We may mostly go for a hike by ₹25,” he hastened to add.

Different scenarios in AP

While PVR Cinemas and Inox have sold ₹26,000 tickets across the country, Cinepolis took the third position with 6,000 tickets being sold at the box office for Adipurush (Hindi).

However, the ground scenario in Andhra Pradesh looks quite different from the buzz and the massive hype that Adipurush is banking on the internet.

Ch Rama Chandra Rao, a single-theatre owner in the Prakasam district, paints a grim picture of the public mood on Adipurush.

“I came to know that single theatre owners can hike the price by ₹50 for Class I, while it is ₹25 for Class II ticket fares. However, we can confirm only after the circular is out,” he explained.

Rama Chandra Rao said he came to know that the ticket openings are full only in Karnataka when compared to the rest of India. “The scenario in Andhra Pradesh will be known by Wednesday evening,” he kept his fingers crossed.

Spoilers on story details

Meanwhile, fake reviews and story details in the form of spoilers related to Adipurush have surfaced on the internet. It is speculated that people who were lucky enough to watch the censored copy of the movie might have spilled the beans to the influencers on social media.

The first half of the movie is driven by the introduction of characters. The whole first half is run with a total of six characters and others with visual animation.

It is learnt that Adipurush’s second half has three sequences which might evoke praise from audiences.

One is Kumbhakarna’s (younger brother of Ravanasura) episode, and the second one is about the sequence of how Ravanasura (the demon King of Lanka) invoking Lord Shiva with his meditation.

And the third sequence is about the Vanara kingdom waging a battle against Lanka.

It is also being widely discussed that Adipurush lags behind in most of its runtime except for these above-mentioned sequences.

₹100 crore-mark

The Prabhas-starrer is riding on the success wave that South films have generated with projects that have diverse storylines. First with, of course, Baahubali (2015 & 2017), the next comes RRR (2022) and then Allu Arjun’s Pushpa (2021).

It’s not new for Prabhas to witness ₹100 crore on the first day of the release as he already did it before. Adipurush, too, would touch that ₹100 crore-mark, provided it wins the hearts of the critics.

Less publicity

Meanwhile, Prabhas or his team hasn’t made any efforts in a publicity campaign to date. Except for the event held in Tirupati, none of them have spoken to the media about the film or its making.

Nevertheless, ahead of Adipurush’s release in the USA, an event is being arranged in Seattle.

“I am leaving for the US to oversee the arrangements. There are no paid premiers planned this time. My team will convey to me the mood of the public and the response. So, I need not worry about it,” a confident Vishwa Prasad remarked.
