Oscar award-winning music composer AR Rahman’s eldest daughter Khatija Rahman has turned into a music composer by scoring music for director Halitha Shameem’s upcoming Tamil film Minmini.

Taking to social media to share her experience of working on Minmini, Khatija Rahman wrote, “Grateful and blessed to be a part of Minmini, a Tamil film on survivor guilt (definitely been an emotional ride working on this film the last few months).”

“It has been a unique journey working with you Halitha Shameem ma’am. Getting to know you as a human being, your warmth, the kindness, the passion you have for filmmaking and the way with which you deal with things, has been inspiring,” the singer added.

Khatija Rahman further wrote, “Thank you for all your trust and kindness, and for bringing me on board and for giving me strength throughout these months. Thanks to God. I’m overwhelmed with all the kind messages. I appreciate my family for being kind and encouraging me in this journey. Please do remember me in your prayers and shower me with your blessings.”

Khatija Rahman, the eldest daughter of AR Rahman, only recently wed audio engineer Riyasdeen Shaik Mohamed.

Before Minmini, Khatija shot to fame for her music video Farishton (2020) which went on to win a series of awards, including the award for best animation music video at the International Sound Future Awards.

Although the award technically went to AR Rahman for being the music director and the producer, he made it amply clear that he considered the video to be the work of his daughter Khatija.

She recently sang a single — Sagavaasi — for Coke Studio Tamil along with popular rapper-lyricist-singer Arivu. The groovy track, which celebrates the bond between humans and Nature, became viral on YouTube by garnering over 20-plus million views to date.

Halitha Shameem writes

Earlier in the day, Minmini director Halitha Shameem, best known for having made the anthology Sillu Karupatti (2019), took to Instagram to drop hints that audiences could expect some great music from the movie.

She wrote, “So happy to be working with this exceptional talent, Khatija Rahman for Minmini. The euphonious singer is a brilliant music composer too. Some great music underway!”
