The upcoming Telugu film Aa Okkati Adakku brings back the memories of veteran director late EVV Satyanarayana’s classic hit of the same name (1992), starring Rajendra Prasad and Rambha.

Now, EVV’s actor-son Allari Naresh is trying something unusual with the same title. It is helmed by director Malli Ankam.

“Naresh came up with the idea for the film’s title. Our storyline bears no relation to the old classic film released in the 1990s. Our film has myriad emotions surrounding marriage and explores how certain characters take advantage of these family emotions,” Malli Ankam told the media about his latest outing Aa Okkati Adakku.

The filmmaker said they tried to present the themes in an engaging way.

“I think we did our best to emotionally connect with audiences. All sections of people can relate to the content since the story is universal. I am sure Aa Okkati Adakku will be a delightful family entertainer,” he said.

Malli Ankam is making his directorial debut with Aa Okkati Adakku, which features Faria Abdullah as the leading lady.

Rajiv Chilaka is producing the flick under the Chilaka Productions banner.

Given Allari Naresh’s return to his original craft of comedy after a long hiatus, there’s considerable hype surrounding the film.

Malli Ankam said producer Ammiraju Kaanumilli introduced him to actor Naresh.

“Despite his busy schedule with four other films, Naresh was hesitant to return to the comedy genre. However, after hearing the story’s first half, he was excited and agreed to take up the project,” the director said.

And then, the unexpected happened. The Telugu actor changed his priorities and paused the already committed projects for Aa Okkati Adakku.

“Naresh was particularly drawn to the emotional depth that the story carries. And comedy elements is another advantage that the story boasts,” the filmmaker added.

Aa Okkati Adakku inspired by real-life incidents

Asked if the story of Aa Okkati Adakku is drawn from real-life experiences, Malli Ankam said he developed the story by observing the events and people in his life.

“People often pose awkward questions to unmarried friends and relatives about their personal life and marriage at private and public gatherings. Such instances inspired me to write the story,” he explained.

Additionally, he drew inspiration from a few real-life incidents and newspaper articles about marriage. The director says there isn’t a specific message in Aa Okkati Adakku, but it aims to encourage viewers to reflect on their relationships with people instead of just asking about weddings.

The film also underlines the importance of being cautious in matters involving marriage.

On launching Jamie Lever in Telugu

Director Malli Ankam achieved another rare feat by introducing Bollywood comedy star Johnny Lever’s daughter Jamie Lever in Aa Okkati Adakku.

“Jamie Lever plays the wife of Naresh’s brother. Her character promises a hilarious ride. We first spotted her talent in a web series and thought she would be the best suit for our character,” the director elucidated.

Jamie Lever is the daughter of renowned Bollywood comedy actor Johnny Lever, a native of the Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh.

“Jamie is proficient in Telugu, which was a plus point. Comedians Harsha and Vennela Kishore also bring good performances to the table. Overall, the characters in the story are entertaining as well as emotionally engaging,” Malli Ankam added.

Aa Okkati Adakku will hit the big screens on 3 May.
