Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy on Thursday, 1 June, said that the Railway Board would conduct a survey for laying separate lines to operate superfast trains between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The Board has also decided to complete the survey in six months and it also wrote a letter to the South Central Railways (SCR) in this regard.

Agenda of the survey

The survey will be conducted between Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada-Shamshabad and Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada-Kurnool, covering 942 km, to ensure that the trains operate at a speed of over 220 kmph.

The Board’s move would strengthen the railway infrastructure in the two Telugu states. The technical feasibility to operate super-fast trains on these two lines will be ascertained by the survey.

The Board agreed to conduct the survey after receiving instructions from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw when his Cabinet colleague Kishan Reddy brought the issue to him several times.

Reddy later reviewed the arrangements being made for the Telangana Formation Day celebrations at Golconda Fort on 2 June. The central government is organising the celebrations officially.

Interacting with the media, he said that all those who played a crucial role in the agitation for separate Telangana would take part in the celebrations.

A separate photo and painting exhibition — one related to the key role played by the BJP in Telangana and another pertaining to various development initiatives and welfare schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last nine years — would be showcased.

The central forces would take part in the parade to be organised as part of the celebrations. Cultural programmes are also being organised in the evening at the fort.
