The inauguration of the 21-day-long festivities to mark Telangana entering its 10th year since its formation will be held at BR Ambedkar Secretariat in Hyderabad on 2 June.

The celebrations are aimed at showcasing the achievements of the young state in sectors as varied as agriculture, energy, and welfare.

A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao at a review meeting with officials at BR Ambedkar State Secretariat on Saturday, 20 May, where he discussed how the celebrations should be conducted.

“The decadal celebrations will be a watershed in Telangana history. The Telangana region, which faced humiliation, has grown after it attained statehood and is now shining in all aspects,” the chief minister, popularly referred to as KCR, said.

“It has become a role model for the rest of the country in energy, agriculture, and almost all other sectors by achieving commendable progress.”

Recalling the struggles

The chief minister underscored the need for involving all the people of Telangana in the decadal celebrations, which will highlight the progress the state had made.

He said, “Telangana state, which had suffered on account of power cuts, is now standing tall in the sector, inspiring other states. We are now able to provide power supply round the clock to the farmers free of cost. But we had to work hard to achieve it. We need to let people know the struggle and toil that went into making Telangana what it is today.”

“The memories of the suffering of farmers because of lack of power supply to the farm sector are still fresh. In those days, we used to see people using inverters. The electricity poles used to stand in bizarre and precarious angles for want of attention. The power lines that used to hang so low had led to farmers dying of electrocutions,” KCR recalled.

“But now, there is a total transformation of the energy sector. We have electricity poles standing very erect, quality cables that supply power without any interruptions, and transformers at regular intervals. This success became possible by improving on the shoddy system that we had inherited. The people of Telangana know the transformation and how it has helped them.”

The chief minister said that the Telangana government had focused its attention on the farm sector, welfare, drinking water supply, medical and health, and various other sectors.

“The people should know in detail how the state had progressed. The media should be made use of to disseminate the information to the people during the three weeks. The events should make villages and towns as if they were celebrations and festivals,” the chief minister said.

Discussions for the event

As the festivities will begin at the state secretariat on 2 June, KCR discussed details such as the kind of stage that has to be set up, the guard of honour to be presented by the police, the hoisting of the national flag, and so on.

He also went through the arrangements to be made for the parking of vehicles for the invitees and hosting high tea for them. The celebrations should continue in all districts and constituencies, he said.

Those who attended the review meeting included ministers T Harish Rao (Finance), V Prashanth Reddy (Roads and Buildings), MLCs Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Seri Subhash Reddy, Deshapathi Srinivas, MLA A Jeevan Reddy, chief minister’s chief advisor Somesh Kumar, and chief secretary A Santhi Kumari.
