The BJP was left red-faced over its Telangana state president Bandi Sanjay’s threat to Oscar winning filmmakers of RRR and his sheepish U-turn after the song ‘Naatu Naatu‘ turned India’s crowning glory at the Academy Awards presentation.

Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao and Congress MLA Danasari Seethakka called out the BJP leader’s bluff and bigotry following the awards ceremony.

In November 2020, Bandi Sanjay threatened the makers of RRR of burning the film reels because the actor had sported a skull cap and claimed distortion of historical events.

Two years later when RRR was nominated for best original song at the Oscars, Bandi Sanjay congratulated the filmmakers.

On Monday, 13 March, the motormouth BJP leader again took to social media to say it was a historic moment for Indian cinema and for the Telugu people.
