Tamil Nadu police arrests man for meme on Budget, Opposition flays DMK for being spineless

Tamil Nadu police arrested a 23-year-old man for creating a meme on the state budget and alleged it was derogatory to women.

Pradeep, the arrested person, had created a meme from a scene of a Tamil film and named the characters after the chief minister and finance minister.

Pradeep was arrested from Gummidipoondi in Chennai late on Tuesday night (21 March).

Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu accused the DMK government of being autocratic and suppressing people’s voices.

State BJP chief K Annamalai said the DMK was rattled by criticism and called them fascists.

While an AIADMK leader circulated the meme on social media and dared the government to arrest him, Women’s Commission member and BJP leader Kushbu Sundar called the DMK spineless.
