“95% of AIIMS Madurai completed,” claimed BJP president JP Nadda while on a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu. However, when MPs from Virudhunagar and Madurai fact-checked the claims, they only found an empty plot designated for AIIMS Thoppur, on Friday, 23 September.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore and CPI (M) MP Su Venkatesan visited the AIIMS site to do a ‘ground report’ highlighting the state of project. It is visible that the construction of AIIMS is yet to begin.

Su Venkatesan said they visited the site to see if “bulbuls” constructed the hospital overnight The pictures posted by Congress MP Manickam Tagore left Twitterati in splits.

The “brick” from Madurai AIIMS was also popular as DMK youth wing chief Udayanidhi Stalin used it for campaigning during assembly polls.

Leaders from Tamil Nadu have been questioning the slow pace at which the AIIMS project is proceeding in Madurai. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the project three years ago.
