Tamil Nadu Assembly passes resolution against #HindiImposition

Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday, 18 October, passed a resolution against any move over imposition of Hindi.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who introduced the resolution in the Assembly, said Hindi cannot be imposed in non-Hindi speaking states and it was against the spirit of federalism.

Stalin hit out at the Centre saying it had a Hindi Divas, but no such day for any other Indian languages.

Parliamentary Panel on Official Languages, headed by Home Minister Amit Shah, had recently submitted a report to the President of India.

Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala among other leaders from southern states had opposed recommendations in the report saying they were against federal principles of Constitution.
