In a huge win for wildlife activists, the Kerala High Court has ordered the state Forest Department not to capture a wild tusker but only to radio-collar it and track its movements.

Arikomban, the rice-raiding tusker of Idukki that had reigned terror in the areas by raiding ration shops was to be captured in a massive Operation by the department.

Activists approached court and state that the procedure was unscientific and cruel.

Forest Department officials have said the court orders will be followed.
