Kochi witnessed a massive show of solidarity as thousands gathered at Rajendra Maidan under the banner of ‘Chalo Jantar Mantar’, raising concerns over democratic rights and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The rally brought together writers, artists, political leaders, students and citizens in support of protesters in Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Writer NS Madhavan drew parallels with Serbia’s student-led movement against Slobodan Milosevic, while former minister P Rajeev highlighted constitutional rights and concerns over the impact of SIR. Filmmaker Kamal and journalist R Rajagopal also spoke about dissent, political unity and the importance of defending democracy.
From live protest art to powerful speeches, Kochi’s gathering turned Rajendra Maidan into a platform for democratic expression, echoing the growing chorus of resistance across the country.
