Protests rock Kalakshetra Foundation over sexual harassment allegations on staff members

Protests rocked the Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts campus with students demanding the dismissal of faculties accused of sexual misconduct.

Protests rocked the Rukmini Devi College of Fine Arts campus under Kalakshetra Foundation in Chennai with students demanding the dismissal of faculty members accused of sexual misconduct.

Kalakshetra Director Revathi Ramachandran met with the protesting students and assured them of action, but students demanded a written assurance which she allegedly refused.

There was high drama on campus after protesting students blocked the director from leaving and she fainted.

Revathi Ramachandran was escorted out of campus by the police.

The academy administration has declared a holiday till 6 April because of the protests.

While a team from the National Women’s Commission has already met the students, top officials of the National Human Rights Commission are expected at the campus Friday, 31 March.

Police have stepped up security on campus.
