BJP MLA from Channagiri Madal Virupakshappa who had gone ‘missing’ after Lokayukta raids unearthed over ₹8 crore cash from his office reappeared at his hometown after obtaining anticipatory bail.

The bribery-accused MLA who had skipped the summons by the Lokayukta got a grand reception from supporters.

Last week, his son Prashanth Madal, a KAS officer and chief accountant with Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) was raided by the Lokayukta.

Prashanth was allegedly demanding a bribe to approve a tender for Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL).

His father Virupakshappa was Chairman of KSDL.

Following public outrage over the raids, Virupakshappa was forced to resign and he claimed it was a political conspiracy against him.

The Congress has launched a campaign demanding Virupakshappa’s resignation.

Chief Minister Bommai has maintained that no decision has been taken on that front.
