A massive political fight broke out over a comment by an archbishop in Kerala about the increase in rubber prices and the support of the community to the BJP.

CPI(M) and Congress came down on Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany of the Thalassery diocese of Syro-Malabar Catholic church for his comment over supporting BJP if they increase rubber price to ₹300 per kg.

The archbishop also said the church had no aversion to the saffron party.

The BJP, however, hit out at the Left and Congress claiming the Christian community’s opinion resulted from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity.

While the Left claimed it was not what the entire Christian community felt, Pamplany, got support from Thamarassery Bishop Remigiose Inchananiyil who said CPI(M) and Congress had neglected farmers.
