In India, the official tally of individuals living with disabilities surpasses 26 million. This is a number that likely falls short of the true count. Despite this staggering figure, their voices often go unheard in societal dialogues.

Throughout the annals of history, individuals with disabilities have endured the harsh realities of marginalisation. They have faced systemic challenges and encountered barriers that hinder their full participation in society. Yet, at this moment, there’s a collective call for change — to rewrite this age-old narrative.

As the world commemorates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, on 3 December, South First finds out the aspirations held by members of the community. Their desires are instrumental in reshaping societal perceptions, and fostering genuine inclusivity, for an equitable tomorrow.
