Indian sailors detained in Nigeria, make appeal to MEA and PM Modi

Sixteen Indian sailors, several from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, detained by Nigerian authorities, have appealed for intervention by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

The sailors are among a 26-member crew aboard the crude oil tanker MT Heroic Idun, a Norway-based ship.

The ship was intercepted by the Equatorial Guinea navy and handed over to Nigerian authorities who have accused the craft of being involved in crude oil racketeering.

The MEA has said it is in contact with both countries involved for the early release of the sailors.
