Detained Indian sailors: Seafarers Union makes appeal to PM Modi

Sixteen Indian sailors detained by the Nigerian Navy and their families back home have been making fervent pleas to the Indian government seeking safe and early release.

The MT Heroic Idun crew was detained for allegedly entering a restricted zone.

Nigerian Navy claims the crew also made a false piracy claim.

Abhijeet Sangle, Working President of the All India Seafarers Union while appealing to MEA and PM for their intervention said there had been no contact with the sailors since 11 November.

MEA has stated that it is in contact with authorities concerned in Nigeria.
