Controversy over finance minister’s jibe at Telangana’s Hindi speaking skills

Opposition parties Congress and TRS among others were up in arms against Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman over her jibe at Telangana’s Hindi-speaking skills.

Her ‘weak Hindi’ barb came during a response to Congress MP Revanth Reddy’s question in Lok Sabha on the depreciation of the rupee.

Reddy who objected to the taunt was cautioned by Speaker Om Birla to refrain from making any religion or caste-based statements.

Terming the Finance Minister’s taunt as an insult, TRS alleged it reflected the current dispensation’s supremacist attitude.
