Filmmaker Vetrimaran’s comments on Chola Kings has triggered a massive debate on whether the erstwhile rulers were Hindus.

Vetrimaran’s claim that Raja Raja Chola was not a Hindu King saw a sharp retort by BJP leader H Raja, who alleged a “systematic de-Hindu-isation taking place in Tamil Nadu”.

The comments came in the context of the film Ponniyin Selvan-1.
