Leaders of AIADMK and its ally BJP locked horns over allegations of poaching party functionaries with the saffron party’s state chief K Annamalai’s threat of hitting back.

“I can go on a shopping spree too. I will do it at the right time and place,” Annamalai said.

AIADMK leader and former minister D Jayakumar retorted by saying the party was not glass to shatter with a stone, but an ocean where the stone would sink and be lost.

Trouble began after CT Nirmal Kumar of the Tamil Nadu BJP IT Cell joined AIADMK in the presence of its interim General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami.

A string of other functionaries followed suit.

Annamalai later welcomed groups of AIADMK into the BJP fold.
