Two girls from Nalgonda die of suicide

Two students of the Women’s Degree College in Telangana’s Nalgonda, who attempted suicide, died while undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital early on Wednesday, 6 September.

Identifying the girls as Dontharaboina Shivani and Anuguthala Maneesha, residents of Narketpally mandal of Nalgonda, both friends aged 19, the police said local residents found them unconscious at the Rajiv Park in Housing Board on Tuesday.

They consumed a pesticide, the police said, adding that the exact motive for the girls to take the extreme step was unknown.

Shivani’s father Saidulu told the police that his daughter had been home, for 20 days due to holidays. Shivani and Maneesha stay in a hostel in Nalgonda. On Tuesday, she left home college around 8 am along with Maneesha.

Around 1.30 pm, she rang up Saidulu and said, “Sorry father, I want to die, I am not feeling well,” and disconnected the call, the FIR quoted the father as saying.

Saidulu tried reaching his daughter and found that she and her friend Maneesha, instead of going to the college, had gone to the park and drank the pesticide.

The bereaved father said he could not imagine what the motive may have been.

“If I had any inkling, I would have not left her alone,” he told South First.

Further investigation on

The police have registered a case under the IPC Section 309 — attempt to commit suicide — and were investigating. They were trying to find the reason for the suicide.

According to the reports, they were being harrassed by someone, by posting their morphed photographs on social media. Reportedly their pictures were taken from their WhatsApp DPs and were allegedly morphed.

Speaking to South First, Nalgonda DSP Sridhar Reddy said, they found an audio message in the phone of one of the girls.

He further said, “She was speaking with someone addressing him as ‘brother’, saying to him that their photos from WhatsApp display pictures were taken and morphed. She also added that the pictures were morphed and circulated on Instagram.”

Speaking on the action to be taken, the DSP said, they are writing to Instagram and other social media platforms to find out who is behind the act.

Some data from their phones was found deleted. The phones have been sent for a forensic examination.

“It seems someone was threatening my daughter, and posting her pictures (on social media).” Shivani’s mother Renuka told reporters.

“I want those responsible for my daughter’s death to be punished,” she added.
