1 migrant worker dies, two injured in a cement factory accident in Telangana's Suryapet

A daily wager died and two others are critically injured in an accident at a cement factory at Mellacheruvu in Telangana’s Suryapet district on the afternoon of Tuesday, 25 July.

The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Aravind, a native of Madhya Pradesh. He was working on a project of the My Home Group.

The two injured labourers, who were also working in Unit-4 of the factory, are natives of West Bengal.

“They are 25-35 years of age. One of them sustained a fractured finger while the other has a head injury. But both are out of danger,” Kodad Rural Circle Inspector (CI) Ramakrishna Reddy told South First.

The accident

The police said construction work was going on on the sixth floor of a multi-storeyed building when the incident took place.

“Concrete was being transported from the ground floor to the top floor through a pumped pipeline,” said Reddy.

He added that in the afternoon, the pipeline malfunctioned on the fourth floor, which meant the concrete could not reach the floors above.

“These are skilled workers who check the pipelines. The pipeline is joined by clamps on each floor. When they were checking the pipeline, the clamp broke, and the concrete fell down,” explained the CI.

As the pipeline broke and the concrete started falling around with high pressure, the centring pipes also gave way.

The three workers, who were working on the fourth floor, fell down along with the centring pipes.

The Kodad police are yet to lodge an FIR in the case. “An FIR will be lodged after investigating whose fault or negligence it was and action will be taken accordingly,” said the CI.
