Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has ordered the setting up of a sub-committee to process the applications received during the Praja Palana outreach programme held between 28 December, 2023, and 6 January.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Batti Vikramarka will be the chairman of the panel, which will have ministers Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivas, and senior IAS officers as its members.
Addressing a news conference on Monday, 8 January, Minister for Revenue and Housing Ponguleti Srinivas highlighted the success of the Praja Palana initiative, which received more than 1.25 crore applications. Of the total applications received, 20 lakh were regarding ration cards.
The minister said officials will carry out a comprehensive house-to-house verification of the application forms. “We have implemented two guarantees within 30 days of forming the government in Telangana,” Srinivas said.
All applications will be reviewed by the officials and beneficiaries will receive the guaranteed benefits without delay. He said once the data entry process is completed, a meeting will be held to discuss the applications.
Praja Palana was Telangana government’s outreach programme during which applications for its six guarantees were collected from potential beneficiaries.
Minister of Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar assured that the beneficiaries would receive the promised guarantees, including the commitment to provide 200 units of free electricity,
“There should be no panic in public as we have received the applications and the beneficiaries will be granted the guarantees. We will stand by our word of 200 units of free electricity,” he said.
The ministers blamed the Opposition BRS for the protest against the Mahakshmi, which offers zero-ticket travel for women in government-run buses within Telangana. They said BRS workers masquerading as auto-rickshaw drivers were behind the protests.
The government has received 1,25,84,383 applications during the Praja Palana programme. Among these, 1,05,91,636 applications were related to the five guarantees given by the Congress before the elections while the remaining 19.93 lakhs were related to other issues.
As many as 1,11,46,293 households were covered during the outreach programme, which was held in 12,769 gram panchayats and 3,623 municipal wards.
