Synopsis: The Telangana police registered an FIR against the Andhra Pradesh police personnel who arrested YouTuber KV Reddy. At the same time, another YouTuber, Raavan, secured bail after appearing before a magistrate.
A day after Andhra Pradesh police detained YouTube political commentators KV Reddy and Raavan (B Joseph), the Telangana police on Monday, 1 July, registered an FIR against personnel who arrested Reddy, while Raavan secured bail after appearing before a magistrate.
KV Reddy’s wife, Vijayalakshmi, approached the Saroornagar Police Station in Hyderabad, alleging that unidentified men claiming to be Andhra Pradesh police had forcibly taken away her husband and treated her harshly during the operation.
Acting on her complaint, Telangana police registered a case against Bobbili Circle Inspector Srinivasa Rao.
Meanwhile, Reddy remained in the custody of the Bobbili police in the Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh throughout the day.
Former YSRCP MLA Sambangi Chinna Venkatappala Naidu alleged that when he went to the police station to inquire about Reddy, he was treated aggressively by the police. He was reportedly denied a face-to-face meeting, although he was allowed a brief phone call with Reddy.
The YSRCP criticised the local police’s conduct, with the former MLA accusing the police of running the police station like personal property.
Despite Reddy completing his medical examination by mid-afternoon on Wednesday, police reportedly took him to the court premises and brought him back to the station for further questioning, instead of producing him before a magistrate.
At the same time, in Pithapuram, the atmosphere outside the police station turned tense as Jana Sena supporters demanded the custody of Raavan, while Dalit groups arrived in a show of support for him, heightening the standoff.
Raavan was subsequently taken to the magistrate’s residence, where advocate Jada Sravan Kumar argued on his behalf.
In a setback for Pithapuram police, the magistrate rejected their remand request and granted Raavan bail on a personal bond.
