A day after a lighting truss collapse killed a first-year student and injured around 14 others during a dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College in Nadergul, Rangareddy district, Telangana police registered an FIR against the college management and the event organisers on Sunday, 18 October.

SHO S Ramesh of Adibhatla police station told South First that the investigation was under way. Earlier reports suggested that two people had died.

The deceased student, identified as Sona, was pursuing first-year BTech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE). Joined the college barely a month ago

The sisters had joined the college barely a month ago. Their father said the family had chosen MVSR so that the sisters could stay together, even though Meena had secured a seat at another institution.

Speaking to the media, the sisters’ father said he had planned to take both daughters home for the festival on Sunday. Instead, he was taking his elder daughter’s body home while his younger daughter remained in critical condition.

He alleged that the college had failed to make adequate arrangements for an event of such scale and had not contacted the family after Sona’s death.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to ensure the best medical care for the injured, identify those responsible for the incident and take strict action against them.
