Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated a new service, Travel Safe (T-Safe), to ensure women’s safety, specifically those travelling alone, and other vulnerable groups on Tuesday, 12 March.

An initiative of the Women Safety Wing (WSW) of Telangana State Police, T-Safe involves monitoring by the police with a primary focus on making travel safer for women, children, and other vulnerable groups in Telangana.

Launched along with the government’s announcement of the Mahila Shakthi Policy, T-Safe is claimed to be a pivotal tool in advancing women’s empowerment.

How to access T-Safe?

Explaining T-Safe, Shikha Goel, Additional Director General of Police of the state Women Safety Wing, said the user could dial either 100 or 112, or select the newly introduced option “8” in the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) menu.

Additionally, citizens could receive the service via the Travel Safe Application on Google Play or the T-Safe web page.

While using the service, citizens would receive automated alerts on the application or calls at periodic intervals, which, if not responded to, will initiate prompt police response.

The chief minister emphasized that T-Safe is a service, not an app, eliminating the need for smartphone usage or application downloads. Even with a basic phone, women could avail of the T-Safe service by dialing 100 and selecting option 8 in the IVR to monitor their ride by the T-Safe team.

The police said T-Safe represents a “groundbreaking approach to emergency police response through proactive automation, eliminating the need for citizens to press additional buttons or dial 100 during emergencies. In crises, the technology facilitates live tracking links to police patrol vehicles, enhancing the efficiency of the existing fleet of 791 patrol cars and 1085 blue colts”.

The Women Safety Wing also announced plans to integrate T-Safe with applications of cab aggregators and other private transport services. Revanth Reddy commended the Telangana Police for their continuous efforts in making the state safer for women and children.
