Telangana horror: Man stabs woman to death for rejecting his advances

The police in the Khanapur town of Telangana’s Nirmal district arrested a man on Thursday, 7 February, for allegedly stabbing a woman to death in broad daylight earlier in the day.

The accused has been identified as 27-year-old J Srikanth. The police said he killed her because she had snubbed his marriage proposal.

They added that Srikanth, a labourer by profession, has been booked under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

The Khanapur Police Station’s Station House Officer (SHO) G Limbadari told South First that the incident happened at around 2 pm on Thursday.

He said the 23-year-old victim, identified as C Alekhya, was attacked in full public view when she was returning from a tailoring shop with her 25-year-old sister-in-law C Jayashri and nephew.

The incident

Srikanth allegedly stabbed Alekhya multiple times, killing her on the spot. He is also said to have attacked and injured Jayashri when she tried to intervene.

Jayashri has since been admitted to a hospital, and she is currently out of danger, said the SHO.

Srikanth and Alekhya, a student, knew each other as they stay in the same colony, he said.

The accused had been troubling her for the last five years, leading her family to confront him and make it clear to him that they could not accept his marriage proposal, added the SHO.

More recently, Alekhya had started avoiding Srikanth, even as her family was looking for a suitable match for her, he said.
