Synopsis: Responding to the incident, Cyberabad CP Ramesh said in a video statement, “In connection with an assault on a woman at a railway station in Hyderabad, one Home Guard who is working with the Railway Protection Force, Anand, has been arrested and taken into custody. He will be produced before the Magistrate for judicial remand. Similarly, he has been removed from the rolls of the Home Guard; his name will be struck off.”
The Telangana police on Saturday, 19 September, arrested a home guard for allegedly assaulting a woman at the Hafizpet Railway Station.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh said the home guard, Anand, has been dismissed from service.
“In connection with an assault on a woman at a railway station in Hyderabad, one Home Guard who is working with the Railway Protection Force, Anand, has been arrested and taken into custody. He will be produced before the Magistrate for judicial remand. Similarly, he has been removed from the rolls of the Home Guard; his name will be struck off.”
“We do not tolerate any such instances of violence against women, crime against women. Telangana Police follows a strict policy of zero tolerance for crime against women,” he added.
Cyberabad Police takes such incidents seriously and reiterates that professional conduct, discipline, dignity and respect for every citizen are fundamental to policing.

A case has also been registered at the Miyapur police station under the BNS sections 74 (use of criminal force against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), and 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means).
Anand was on deputation to the railway police and was patrolling the Miyapur area around 10 pm on Friday, 18 September. He was caught on CCTV camera assaulting the woman near Platform No. 1 on the Aditya Nagar side of Hafeezpet Railway Station.
The Miyapur police, who registered an FIR, said the woman, a ragpicker/beggar, had allegedly abused the home guard before the assault.
On Saturday, South Central Railway responded to the video and said it had repatriated him to Telangana State Police for disciplinary action.
“The incident reported at Hafizpet Railway Station was enquired into, and the personnel concerned was identified as a Home Guard of Telangana State Police deputed for duty at Hafizpet Railway Station. He was repatriated to the Telangana state police department for necessary disciplinary action.”

Earlier, Telangana DGP CV Anand too responded to the incident and wrote on X:”Such behaviour by our staff , whatever be the rank and whatever be the provocation , cannot be forgiven. It is abominable and in total disregard of all instructions and training .”

The incident sparked widespread criticism from the Opposition, common people and activists.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao took to X to call out the Telangana police. He claimed that “Impunity and arrogance are now their trademark.”
“To everyone aghast over the viral video of a woman being dragged by Telangana police, let me tell you one thing – unfortunately, today, Telangana police is not a force that common people recognise anymore,” the Opposition leader added.
Further recalling recent incidents of issues with law and order, KTR wrote: “They will be in a deep slumber for nine days if a Union Minister’s son is accused in POCSO; they will be on mute if an MP’s son rams down and kills a poor girl from Odisha. They will escort goons to attack a former CM with special rope parties; they will assault, pull hair and sarees of female MLAs. They will stop a little girl from going to school and terrorise her.”
“But for public and political opponents – they are no less than street-side goons in uniforms. Every day there will be broad daylight murders; law and order will be in the gutters, but they will be busy playing political games. Dear honest brothers and sisters of Telangana Police, is this what you signed up for?”
