Telangana Deputy Tahsildar arrested for demanding Rs 20,000 bribe

Synopsis: Deputy Tahsildar Chandra Shekar, Chandur mandal (Nalgonda), was nabbed by ACB after accepting Rs 20,000 bribe from car dashboard to release land mutation documents of a complainant’s late father. He has been produced before Nampally special court and investigation are underway.

A Deputy Tahsildar from Chandur mandal in Nalgonda district was arrested on Thursday after falling into an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trap for allegedly demanding and accepting a £20,000 bribe to process land mutation documents.

ACB sources said the accused officer, Chandra Shekar, demanded the money from a complainant in return for releasing previously issued mutation proceedings and related records concerning land inherited from the complainant’s late father.

The bribe money was recovered from the dashboard of the officer’s car. He was taken into custody and produced before the special court for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. A probe is underway.

The ACB has reminded the public to report any demands for bribes by government officials using the toll-free number 1064 or its official social media pages, assuring complete confidentiality for informants.
