Synopsis: A 23-year-old cab driver was arrested for allegedly assaulting a cabin crew member while she was on her way to work on Monday afternoon.
The Hyderabad Police have arrested a 23-year-old cab driver for allegedly raping a cabin crew member after diverting the vehicle, while she was on her way to the airport, near Shamshabad on Monday, 20 July.
According to the police, the woman had boarded the cab on Monday afternoon to travel to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). After she got into the car, the driver allegedly diverted the vehicle and stopped at an isolated place near an under-construction building next to the Sancta Maria School.
The accused reportedly told the passenger that he needed to use the restroom before stepping out of the vehicle.
After stepping out of the car, the accused allegedly approached the woman from behind, held her and sexually assaulted her. According to the police, the accused also physically attacked the woman and threatened her.
Following a complaint by the victim, police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Based on credible information received on Wednesday morning, police apprehended the accused, identified as Errapogu Prashanth Kumar (23), a cab driver from Siddanthi village in Shamshabad mandal of Ranga Reddy district.

During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to the offence, police said. He was subsequently subjected to a medical examination and produced before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
The investigation is ongoing.
According to Indian Express, the cab service was being run by a local company and had been assigned by the airline to handle its employee pickups and drop-offs.
“We have asked the airline to check the safety of the operation of the cab services and the safety precautions that are in place for the transport of women workers,” the newspaper quoted a police official as saying.
