Synopsis: Following the victim’s statement, the police have registered two separate FIRs. The proceedings are being handled under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

A 13-year-old girl—a student in the ninth grade of a school in Pathanamthitta—has reported that she was sexually assaulted by her own classmates.

The ordeal came to light during a routine counselling session at her school, prompting immediate intervention by educational and law enforcement authorities.

According to preliminary reports from the Koodal police, the victim disclosed that the assaults took place at multiple locations, including an area near the school campus and the residence of one of the accused students.

The investigation has revealed the alleged involvement of eight minors, all of whom are students at the same school as the victim.

So far, authorities have identified six of the individuals involved.

Notably, the group of accused is reported to include a minor girl.

Following the victim’s statement, the Koodal police have acted swiftly, registering two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) to facilitate a comprehensive investigation.

Given that all involved parties are minors, the proceedings are being handled under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

While the police are treating the survivor’s statement with the utmost seriousness, they emphasised that the investigation is in the preliminary stages.

Authorities stated that they are conducting a thorough verification of the veracity of the allegations and that they are committed to a careful, evidence-based process rather than jumping to conclusions.

The authorities are currently conducting a detailed inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, as well as the social and school environment that allowed such an event to occur.

Further details are expected to emerge as the police investigation continues.
